What class does my kid race?
A class name tells you three things: how old the rider is, how big the bike is and how fast the field runs. Once you can read one, picking a class gets much easier.
Young riders: age and engine size
Kids start in classes grouped by age and bike size. These are the labels TrackMyMoto uses to group similar classes across tracks.
- 50cc (ages 4 to 8)
- 65cc (ages 7 to 9, and 10 to 11)
- 85cc (ages 9 to 11, and 12 to 15)
- Supermini (ages 12 to 16)
- Girls (ages 9 to 16)
Skill letters
Many classes add a skill level, such as Youth A, B or C, and 250 or 450 classes with A, B or C. C is the beginner level. B is the middle. A and Pro are the fastest riders.
Skill tiers are set by each series and track, usually from past results. A rider who wins often moves up.
Every track sets its own cutoffs
Age cutoffs, bike limits and class names change between tracks and series. A class that exists at one track may be combined with another at the next. Check the rulebook for the series, or ask at sign-up.
See what riders like yours race
Search any rider your child's age on TrackMyMoto. Their profile lists every class they have entered and how they finished. It is the fastest way to see what a typical first-year rider enters, and how big the fields are.
When to move up
Moving up is the series' decision, but results show when a rider is ready. Winning a class often, with a wide gap to the field, is the usual signal. Our advancement page shows how close a rider is to the next level. It is advisory only. The sanctioning body decides.
